FAQ

  • Do I have to be experienced with clay to do this course?

No, This course is suitable for beginners and covers a lot of foundation information for anyone new to hand building.

  • Do I have to use the recommended products?

All of the tools and materials are flexible. I share my own preferences, though you can absolutely improvise throughout. A list of recommended tools and materials is available in the course player.

  • Do I need access to a kiln?

Ideally yes, just to see your completed results. If you do not have immediate access however, that is fine. The work will keep until you are ready to fire.

  • Do you include how to make, glaze and fire the clay pieces?

This course covers many foundation topics such as storing clay, making, drying, glazing and a little on firing of your work. I have aimed for the course to be an excellent starting point, though please seek a group in your local area to help you along if you need more direct instruction.

  • What Tools do I need for the course?

You can see the full list of items I recommend within the course 'preview', though all items are simple standard clay studio tools and materials.

  • Can I use any clay for this course?

Yes you can, though some will be much much easier than others. I strongly recommend starting with a hand-building clay.

Thank you Jolene for such a wonderful course and for sharing your creativity and your knowledge. To be able to learn with you at my kitchen table in England has been a privilege. The course has taught me so much and being able to rewind and try again time after time has helped to build my confidence too. You have a lovely way of teaching that is easy to follow and your warmth and passion really come through for your art. I will take so many things away from this course and look forward to the finished serveware pots coming back to me from the kiln gods soon, let’s pray in one piece !! But if not then on with the adventure ! I am looking forward to joining you online for more of your courses. Thank you again and it has been an absolute pleasure.
